Newton-Wellesley Hospital and AllWays Health Partners Launch New, Integrated Product Made Possible by Mass General Brigham

(SOMERVILLE, MA) – Newton-Wellesley Hospital (NWH) and AllWays Health Partners (AllWays) today announced the launch of an innovative new health insurance product featuring NWH providers and made possible by provider-payer integration enabled by Mass General Brigham. The offering, named Allies, is a high-performance network that combines world-class care, exceptional customer experience, and lower costs.

Allies is built around NWH, which offers high-quality primary and specialty care in a community setting and is the top-ranked community hospital in Massachusetts by US News & World Report. While Allies will keep primary and specialty care in the community, members with more complex medical needs will have access to Mass General Brigham Hospitals, including Mass General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Allies will be exclusively offered by AllWays.

“We are proud to introduce this offering that focuses squarely on the needs of those living in our community—and promises high-quality primary and specialty care, convenience and lower costs, with an outstanding experience,” said Errol R. Norwitz, MD, PhD, MBA, President of Newton-Wellesley Hospital. “This is what our community wants and deserves.”

Allies aims to improve the member experience through personal support from dedicated Allies health navigators to ensure convenient access to primary and specialty care. With medical and insurance knowledge, the navigators will help members manage interactions such as choosing or changing PCPs and scheduling both in-person and telehealth appointments.

“This new product represents what makes Mass General Brigham unique in the health care market. Our goal is to provide very personal patient support and convenient care from one primary hospital,” said Gregg Meyer, MD, Chief Clinical Officer, Mass General Brigham. “By taking what we’ve learned about population health and turning it into an effective employer-based health plan offering, we can offer members a choice about how they want to access their primary care—in person or virtual—something that is even more important during the COVID-19 pandemic and part of a new health care experience.”

Employers enrolled in Allies will receive savings of up to 20 percent compared to AllWays’ full network plans. These savings will be achieved through the provision of high-quality primary care at the local level and complex care at academic medical centers and specialty hospitals for more efficient care delivery.

“With the introduction of Allies, AllWays Health Partners and Mass General Brigham are delivering on the promise of value-based care at the core of our partnership,” said Steve Tringale, Interim President, AllWays Health Partners. “We are excited about creating a new product that aligns provider and payer and allows us to offer high-quality health care and a great customer experience at an affordable price.”

A key feature of Allies will be the utilization of virtual care—a convenient, increasingly popular care-delivery platform that has become an even more important service in the COVID-19 era. NWH has a virtual PCP group that will be available exclusively to Allies HMO members to access care through a remote platform.

The seamless member experience is also supported by integrated technology platforms across the Mass General Brigham system. Member insurance cost sharing information such as copays and deductibles will be automatically uploaded to the Mass General Brigham patient registration system and web portal.

Allies advances Mass General Brigham’s goal of creating a value-based health care model that delivers affordable primary, secondary and behavioral health care in the community—a central theme in the five-year strategic plan announced last year by Anne Klibanski, MD, President and CEO, Mass General Brigham.

Conveniently located where members live and work, Allies will be available in 65 communities from MetroWest to the neighborhoods of Boston, beginning Oct. 1, 2020. Employers in these geographies can request Allies through their broker or employee benefits advisor. Allies provides access to a smaller network than AllWays Health Partners’ full commercial HMO provider network and will be offered alongside the AllWays full network and suite of plans.
